Hverud lockstation, Dalsland Canal
Lock chambers: 4
Elevation: 9,9 m
Duration: 1 hour
Opening hours
Håverud has a system of four locks and an aqueduct that goes past and over the rapids in the Upperud River. The four locks have a total height difference of 9,9 m. Once you have passed the lowest lock, follow a short stretch of canal until it curves to the left. Just after this will be a double lock, with a railway at the upper part; bascule bridge with 8,5 m clearance.
Boaters wishing to open the bridge should contact the lock keeper in advance; otherwise there is a risk that you will have to wait for the next turn. Immediately after the third lock, the canal enters the famous aqueduct (32,5 m long, 4,36 m wide, 1,8 m deep and anchored on sturdy granite piers) that leads the canal over the Upperud River’s old river channel (Håverud Rapids).
After the aqueduct is a dam and a short stretch of canal before the uppermost lock in Håverud. Just before this top lock, you will pass a large fixed road bridge.
